Who we are
Stoneware for everyday tables, thrown by hand by the sea.
Lakshmi trained as a potter at a studio near Auroville and opened Suduman in 2016 in an old Tamil house in White Town. Four potters now throw, trim and glaze every piece here, and fire the kilns every second week.
Mugs, plates and bowls thrown on the wheel in our Puducherry studio, glazed in our own colours and fired to 1,260°C. Safe for daily use. Three-hour beginner classes for up to six people, with clay, tools and firing included. Take home two pieces of your own.

What we stand for
Three things we will not change
Made for daily use
Our pieces are fired hot and glazed to be washed, microwaved and used every day, not kept on a shelf.
Safe glazes
We mix our own glazes from tested recipes, lead-free, and check every batch for food safety.
Seconds sold honestly
Pieces with small flaws are sold at the studio for less, marked clearly, never sent as firsts.

I use the speckled mug every morning for filter coffee. Two years and not a chip.
The lagoon bowls are even more beautiful in person. The glaze changes with the light.
The Saturday wheel class was the best three hours of our trip to Puducherry.
Firing dates and studio sales, first.
One message every second Friday, when the kiln opens.
