Inside our kit: how we clean between brides

Brushes, sponges, lipsticks and lashes: the hygiene routine our team follows before every booking.

Hygiene is one of the first things brides ask about, and rightly so. Makeup moves from face to face, and a busy wedding season can mean several clients in a day. Here is exactly what our team does with the kit between clients.

Brushes are washed after every booking, not every day. When an artist comes back to the studio in Jubilee Hills, every brush she used is washed in warm water with a gentle cleanser, rinsed until the water runs clear, reshaped and laid flat to dry overnight on a clean towel. On days with two bookings, she carries two full sets of brushes, so nothing is reused unwashed.

Anything that touches lips or eyes directly is single-use or kept for one person. Lip colour is scraped out with a clean spatula onto a palette, never applied straight from the bullet. Mascara wands, lash applicators and lip brushes are disposable. Each bride gets her own sealed lashes and a fresh sponge, which we leave with her after the day.

Cream and liquid products are dispensed onto a clean steel palette with a spatula, so nothing is dipped into a jar twice. Palettes and tools are wiped with alcohol between clients, and our kit cases are emptied and cleaned every Monday. Finally, every new product is patch-tested on the bride at her trial, on the inside of the arm and along the jaw. If a bride has a known sensitivity, she can bring her own products, and we work around them. Ask to see any part of this routine when you visit; we are happy to show you.
