What to send us for a custom cake design

Five details that turn a vague idea into a sketch you will love, and a few that do not matter as much as you think.

Every custom cake at our studio starts as a pencil sketch, and the sketch is only as good as what we know. A message that says “something pretty for my daughter” leads to three rounds of changes. A message with five details usually gets it right the first time.

First, the date, time and place, including whether the cake will sit outdoors, indoors with fans, or in an air-conditioned room. This decides the finish more than anything else. Second, the number of guests and whether the cake is the only dessert. Third, two or three pictures: one of a cake you like, and one of something from the party itself, such as the invitation, the dress or the decoration colours. Fourth, flavours, and whether you need eggless. Fifth, your budget. A clear budget saves time on both sides, because we can design within it instead of guessing.

What matters less than people think: the exact shade of a colour on your phone screen, which never matches real icing, and the number of tiers. We often suggest fewer, taller tiers that look grander and cost less to build.

Within a day we send a sketch with dimensions, colours written in plain words, the flavour of each tier and the final price. You can ask for one round of changes at no cost. Once you approve and pay the advance, the sketch is pinned above Nithya’s table in Indiranagar, and the cake is built from it. If you send a photo of a cake by another baker, we will redraw it in our own style rather than copy it.
