Bento cake, cupcakes or a 1 kg cake?

For small celebrations of two to fifteen people, here is how the three options compare on servings, cost and fuss.

Not every celebration needs a tiered cake. Most of the small orders we get in Indiranagar are for an anniversary at home, an office birthday for a team of ten, or a surprise for a flatmate. For these, people usually choose between a bento cake, a box of cupcakes and a regular 1 kg cake.

A bento cake is a 4-inch cake of about 350 g, packed in a small box with a message on top, for ₹550. It serves two to four people generously. It is meant for a couple or a very small surprise, and it fits in a backpack or a scooter’s storage space, which many customers in Bengaluru appreciate.

Cupcakes come in boxes of six for ₹720. They are best for offices and children’s parties because nobody has to cut and serve anything, and each person gets a whole, neat portion. For a team of 12, two boxes cost ₹1,440, a little less than a 1 kg designed cake, and leave no crumbs on the conference table.

A 1 kg cake, such as our chocolate truffle at ₹1,650, serves 10 to 12 as a dessert or up to 15 as a taste after a meal. It is the right choice when you want the moment of cutting, candles and a photograph. Our rule of thumb: up to four people, choose a bento. Five to fifteen people who will eat standing up, choose cupcakes. A sit-down celebration with candles, choose a 1 kg cake, and add a bento for the person who deserves their own.
