Begum Bazaar in Deepavali week: a short guide

Parking, crowds and timings for visiting our shop and the old market lanes around it in October.

Begum Bazaar is one of Hyderabad’s oldest wholesale markets, and in the weeks before Deepavali it is also one of its busiest. If you are coming to collect an order or see the boxes in person, a little planning helps.

Come on a weekday morning between 10 am and 12.30 pm if you can. From 5 pm onwards, and all of the last weekend before Deepavali, the lanes around Feelkhana Road are packed with handcarts, two-wheelers and families buying diyas, sweets and pooja items. Cars move very slowly. Parking is easier near the Osmangunj side or at Moazzam Jahi Market, and the walk to our shop takes about ten minutes. Many customers come by metro to MGBS or by auto, which saves a lot of trouble.

Our shop is small, so in peak hours we take orders at a table on the pavement. Bring your list on your phone, and we can check stock and send the estimate on WhatsApp while you wait. If you are collecting a large order, tell us an hour ahead so the cartons are ready at the front. Never put crackers in a car boot next to a gas kit or near the engine; keep them on the back seat floor in the carton.

While you are here, the lanes nearby sell clay diyas by the hundred, rangoli colours and dry fruits at wholesale prices. Bring cloth bags, keep your phone in a front pocket and give yourself an extra half hour for the drive home.
