How we clean headsets, controllers and VR face covers
Wipes after every player, a UV cabinet and a weekly deep clean: the routine nobody sees.
Shared equipment only works if people trust it is clean. Here is what happens to the kit between you and the player before you.
Headsets are wiped after every session. When a PC is freed, a floor staff member wipes the ear cushions and headband with an alcohol-free wipe, so the leatherette does not crack, and hangs the headset back on its hook. We replace ear cushions every three months.
Controllers are wiped after every booking, including the grips, sticks and buttons. Every night after closing, all controllers go into a UV cabinet for ten minutes. Keyboards and mice are wiped each evening, and once a week every keyboard has its keycaps lifted and cleaned of crumbs. That is also why we keep food trays beside each station.
VR is the most careful routine. Every headset has a removable face cover; after each player, the cover is swapped for a fresh one and the used one is washed. The lenses are cleaned with a dry microfibre cloth, never wipes, which scratch them. Controllers and wrist straps are wiped too.
On Monday mornings the lounge is closed until 11 for a deep clean of chairs, floors, desks and the party rooms. If you ever find something that does not look clean, tell the desk and we will swap it at once.
