Size, colour and layout tricks that make the room feel bigger.

Most bathrooms in Indian apartments are small, around 5 × 7 feet. The right tiles can make them feel calm and generous, and the wrong ones make them feel like a box.
On the floor, use a matt, anti-slip tile. Smaller tiles, such as 300 × 300 mm or cement tiles at 200 × 200 mm, give better grip and slope more easily towards the drain. A patterned cement tile on the floor with plain walls is one of the most effective ways to give a small bathroom character.
On the walls, light colours help, but they need not be plain white. A soft green or warm grey in a glazed finish reflects light while feeling less clinical. Lay rectangular tiles horizontally to make a narrow room feel wider, or vertically to make a low ceiling feel higher.
Keep the number of tile types to two, three at most. And match the grout to the tile, not in contrast, unless you want the grid to be the main feature. Visit our showroom bathrooms; three of them are exactly this size.
