Sky shots for a Madurai wedding: what families ask

From the mappillai azhaippu to the reception night, how families add an aerial show to a wedding in and around the city.

Weddings are now nearly a third of our orders. In Madurai, families most often want a short aerial show at two moments: the mappillai azhaippu, when the groom’s party arrives the evening before, and the end of the reception. Here are the questions families ask us most.

Where can we fire it? Most marriage halls in the city have no open ground of their own, so the show happens on the road outside or on a nearby vacant plot. Ask the hall manager first; many have a fixed spot and a fixed time. Halls on the ring road and towards Thiruparankundram usually have more space than those in the old town.

How long should it be? Shorter than you think. Guests stand outside for five to eight minutes happily. A 60-shot and a 120-shot together run for about six and a half minutes and cost ₹7,350, which covers most arrivals. For a reception finale, our 240-shot alone is seven minutes.

Who lights it? Never the groom’s cousin in a silk veshti. Appoint two adults in cotton clothes who are not part of the ceremony, and give them our show plan in advance. For larger shows, one of our team can attend in Madurai city for ₹1,500. What about the timing? Follow the hours allowed by local rules and the hall. We suggest an exact start time, written on the plan, so the photographer and the band know when to be ready. Order at least two weeks before the muhurtham date.
