Who we are
From the first sa to the first song you love.
Vidya, a vocalist trained in the gurukula way, started Panchami in 2009 in her front room. Today seven teachers teach Carnatic, keyboard and guitar in four soundproofed rooms, to about 260 students.
Carnatic vocal and violin, keyboard and guitar for children and adults, in small groups, with a students’ concert every three months. Four times a year, beginners and seniors play together in our hall for families. The first concert is often the moment a child decides to keep going.

What we stand for
Three things we will not change
Small groups
No class is larger than six, so every student sings or plays alone in every class.
Tradition and reading
Carnatic students learn by ear in the old way; keyboard and guitar students read music from the start.
Playing for others
Every student performs at the quarterly concert, because playing for an audience is part of learning.

My daughter started varisais at seven and sang a geetham at her first concert four months later.
I took up guitar at 46 in the evening batch. Nobody made me feel late to it.
The violin loan meant we could try it before buying. He is still playing two years later.
