A heavy, simple bicycle that runs for decades with very little care.

In a shop full of alloy frames and gears, the steel roadster looks like it belongs to another age. It still sells every week, and we think for good reasons.
It is simple. One gear, a chain cover and caliper brakes mean very little to adjust and almost nothing to go wrong. Milkmen, newspaper delivery riders and college lecturers in Mysuru ride the same bicycle for twenty years, servicing it twice a year.
It carries things. The rear carrier takes 25 kg, the frame takes a front basket and the riding position is upright, so you see the road and the road sees you. On the flat streets of Gokulam and Saraswathipuram, a single speed is all most trips need.
It is easy to repair anywhere. Every part is a standard size, available in any cycle shop in India, and our workshop can braze a cracked frame back together.
It is not for everyone. On a long climb or a fast commute, a city bicycle with gears is easier. But for short daily trips with a bag of vegetables, the roadster is hard to beat.
