What a ₹4,500 dental scaling includes

Dental scaling is one of the procedures owners most often question on cost, partly because human dental cleaning can be cheaper. The difference is that pets need anaesthesia for a thorough, safe cleaning. Here is what our ₹4,500 package includes for a dog or cat in good general health.

The day starts with a check. A vet examines your pet again, and we run a basic pre-anaesthetic blood test to look at kidney and liver values and blood counts, which helps us plan anaesthesia safely. If your pet is over eight, we may suggest a fuller panel, which is charged separately.

Next is anaesthesia and monitoring. A small cannula is placed in a vein, your pet is given an anaesthetic and a tube is placed in the windpipe so water and debris cannot be breathed in. A nurse watches heart rate, oxygen levels and temperature throughout. Drugs, fluids and monitoring make up about a third of the cost.

The cleaning takes 30 to 60 minutes. An ultrasonic scaler removes tartar above and just below the gumline, every tooth is checked and charted, and the teeth are polished smooth so new plaque sticks less easily. Your vet notes any loose or broken teeth; extractions, if needed, are discussed with you by phone before they are done and charged separately. Your pet wakes in our recovery area with a nurse nearby and usually goes home the same evening. The package includes the follow-up check a week later and a printed chart of your pet’s teeth.
