Venue, food and rooms take most of it: how we split a budget, and where couples overspend.

For a three-day destination wedding in Udaipur, venue, rooms and food together usually take half to two-thirds of the budget. Décor and flowers take another fifth. Photography, entertainment, outfits, invitations and travel share the rest.
We build every budget line by line in a shared sheet, with a contingency of 8 to 10 percent held back. Each vendor quote is attached, and you pay vendors directly, so you always know where the money is going.
The most common overspend is on décor for events that last two hours. A haldi set will be seen by your family for a morning; a mandap will appear in every photograph for decades. Spend where the memories are made.
The second is guest count. Every extra guest costs a room, meals for three days, transport and a gift. Agree on the number with both families early, and before you sign with a venue.
