Rituals, outfits and turmeric on marble: practical planning for the brightest event of the wedding.

The haldi is often the most joyful event of a wedding and the hardest to keep on schedule. Families arrive in waves, rituals vary from one household to another, and everyone wants a photograph with the bride or groom.
We start by asking the elders of both families which rituals they want, in what order, and who performs each. That becomes a simple running order with times, shared with the photographer and the band.
Turmeric stains. We cover marble and upholstery, set the ceremony on a durrie or a protected lawn, and keep warm water, towels and a changing room nearby. Ask guests to wear clothes they do not mind marking.
Hold the haldi early, finishing by noon, so the couple has time to rest and bathe before the evening. Brunch should be ready when the rituals end, not after the photographs, or the event drifts into the afternoon and pushes every later timing back.
