Muhurat dates and the winter peak: picking your wedding dates

How auspicious dates, weather and venue demand interact in Udaipur, and when flexibility saves money.

For most families, the wedding date is set first by the family priest, who gives a list of auspicious muhurat dates. In Udaipur, those dates then meet a second reality: the winter wedding peak, when palace venues, florists and rooms are booked a year ahead. Planning well means looking at both together.

The peak runs from mid-November to mid-February, with the heaviest weeks around the popular muhurat clusters in late November, early December and late January. On those dates, a palace venue may have been booked eighteen months ahead, and rooms in the whole city cost 30 to 50 percent more than in a quieter week. Some of the biggest vendors, from mandap décor teams to folk bands, are spread across three weddings on the same evening.

If your priest offers several possible dates, ask for the full list before choosing, and share it with us. Often one date falls in a quieter week, when the same venue is available for less, rooms are easier and our best teams can give your wedding their full attention. Late February and early March are pleasant, with warm days and cool evenings, and usually cost less than December.

Avoid April to June, when daytime temperatures pass 40 °C and outdoor events become uncomfortable, and July to September, when monsoon rain makes lakeside lawns unreliable, though the lakes themselves are full and beautiful. Once a date is fixed, we confirm the venue in writing within a week, before anything else is booked.
