Our switch to an all-green shelf

What “green” means on a cracker box, and what it does not.

Green crackers are fireworks made with reduced-emission formulations. Compared with the older kind, they are designed to give off less particulate smoke, and many items are made to be less loud. They still burn and still produce some smoke; they are a cleaner version of a cracker, not a different thing.

You can recognise a green cracker by its label, which should name the maker, the batch and the formulation. If the label is vague or missing details, be cautious.

In Bengaluru, the rules in recent years have allowed only green crackers, and only in set hours in the evening. Apartment associations often add their own rules for courtyards and terraces. Check both before you plan.

At Hasiru Belaku we list only green items, open a box from every batch before it goes on sale, and print the noise level on our product pages. If you are unsure about an item for your building, send us a message and we will tell you honestly whether it suits.
