Celebrating in an apartment

Balconies, courtyards and terraces: what goes where.

Most of our customers live in apartments, and most of their questions are about where they can light what. Here is how we think about it.

On a balcony, stick to sparklers and twinklers. Keep plants, curtains and drying clothes inside, keep a cup of water for the wires, and never light anything that sits on the floor. Balconies are narrow and sparks bounce off walls.

In the courtyard or on the podium, flower pots and small 12-shots are usually fine, placed well away from parked cars, building walls and the lift lobby. Most associations set a common area and a common time; follow it, and agree on one adult who keeps the water and sand buckets.

On a terrace, check first whether the association allows it, and look for water tanks, solar panels and dry pots. Fountains are fine on a hard floor; sky shots are not, because the debris falls on neighbouring roofs.

Afterwards, sweep up, soak the leftovers in water and bag them. Your neighbours will remember that more than the fireworks.
