Budgeting for green crackers: three family orders
What ₹3,000, ₹5,000 and ₹8,000 buy for a Bengaluru family, with the transport charge included.
Green crackers cost a little more than the older kind, and most families we speak to want to know what a sensible order looks like. Here are three real-world baskets, built from our own list.
For ₹3,000, our minimum order, a family of four on a balcony is well covered. One balcony box at ₹1,850, two boxes of 15 cm colour sparklers at ₹220, a box of twinklers at ₹130, a deepam set at ₹480, two boxes of 10 cm sparklers at ₹120 and a box of 30 cm long sparklers at ₹210 come to ₹3,010. Add ₹300 for transport within Bengaluru and the total is ₹3,310.
For about ₹5,000, a family with access to a courtyard can add fountains. Start with the balcony box, then add one box of big flower pots at ₹360, one box of deluxe gold flower pots at ₹420, a 12-shot emerald at ₹560, a 50-piece sparkler party pack at ₹520 and a deepam set. That comes to ₹4,190, plus transport.
For around ₹8,000, two families sharing a society ground could take the 60-shot multicolour at ₹2,650 as a finale, a 30-shot gold and green at ₹1,250, two boxes of each flower pot, three sparkler packs and a deepam set, about ₹7,500 with transport. Our advice is to spend on sparklers and fountains first, because everyone gets a turn. One sky shot is watched; a box of sparklers is held by ten hands.
