Working well in a shared space

Headphones, booths and the kitchen: a few habits that make coworking pleasant for everyone.

A coworking space works best when everyone shares a few simple habits. The first is noise. Use headphones for music and videos, and take calls in the phone booths or a meeting room, not at your desk. A quick question to a neighbour is fine; a twenty-minute conversation belongs in the café area.

The second is space. Hot desks are shared, so clear your desk when you leave for the day. Use the lockers for anything you want to keep. Label your food in the kitchen fridge and clear it out on Fridays.

The third is meeting rooms. Book only the time you need, and end on time; someone is usually waiting. If you finish early, release the booking so others can use it.

Finally, say hello. Many of our members have found clients, collaborators and friends over lunch or at the monthly members’ evening. A shared space is more useful when you know the people in it.
