Lunch, errands and a walk around Saheed Nagar

Where members eat, print, bank and take a break within ten minutes of our building, and the best times to go.

One reason we chose Saheed Nagar was what is around it. Almost everything a working day needs is within a ten-minute walk, and new members always ask where to go. Here is what our members recommend.

For lunch, the lanes around the market have plenty of small restaurants serving Odia thalis, with rice, dalma, saga bhaja and a fish or egg curry, usually ₹100 to ₹180. Go before 12.45 or after 2, because office lunch crowds fill them in between. Several kitchens deliver to our front desk if you would rather eat in our kitchen. In the evening, the roadside stalls near the market sell chhena poda, rasabali and gupchup, and many members finish the day with one.

For errands, there are banks and ATMs on the main road, a post office a short walk away, and several printing and photocopy shops that can handle bulk printing, binding and lamination faster and cheaper than our printer. Stationery shops nearby stock almost anything an office runs out of.

If you need a break from the screen, a slow walk through the quieter residential lanes behind our building takes about 20 minutes and is shaded in the afternoon. For a longer break, Ekamra Kanan, the big botanical garden, and the old temples of the city are a short auto ride away. For getting around, autos and app cabs are easy to find on the main road, and the city bus stops within five minutes. On Saturdays the market is busiest, so plan errands for a weekday lunch break.
