Who we are
Books we have read, chosen for the person you are.
Golpo began as a single stall outside the university. Today four of us run the shop, and nothing goes on the front table until one of us has read it. Old books are bought from family libraries across Bengal.
New fiction, Bengali writing in translation, children’s books and old editions, from a College Street shop with the same shelves since 1974. Our reading service picks one book a month for you, wrapped with a short note on why. ₹650 a month including delivery.

Nothing goes on the front table unless one of us has finished it and can tell you why.
Honest descriptions
Every old book is checked page by page; we list the foxing, the torn corner and the previous owner’s name.
Fair prices
New books at the printed price. Old books priced by condition and rarity, never by how much you seem to want them.
Tell us three books you loved. We will send you a fourth.
