Are horror rooms too scary

A common worry, answered: what happens in our horror rooms, and how we keep players in control.

People often ask us whether the horror rooms will be too much. The honest answer depends on the room and on you, but they are built so that you always stay in control.

The Whispering Archive is spooky rather than frightening: low light, whispered audio and files that seem to move. Most people who dislike horror films still enjoy it. Room 113 is tense, with sudden sounds and a radio that seems to respond to you. The Mill at Midnight, on Friday and Saturday nights, has actors who move through the space. They never touch players.

Every horror room has three safety rules. There is a safe word, said in the briefing, that stops the game and brings up the lights. The exit door is never locked and is marked by a light you can always see. And a host is watching the camera the whole hour and can speak to you through a speaker.

We set age limits for a reason: 14 and up for Room 113, 16 and up for The Mill and The Well. We do not recommend horror rooms for anyone with a heart condition or who is pregnant.

If one person in your group is nervous, book The Whispering Archive first. Most people come out wanting something darker.
