Where to buy jasmine, hair accessories and bangles in the city, and what to order the week before.

Most of our brides wear flowers and accessories they buy themselves, and Coimbatore is a good city to shop for them. Here is where our customers usually go, and what to plan.
For flowers, the wholesale flower market near the Town Hall and RS Puram is busiest before 8 am, when jasmine, kanakambaram and roses come in from farms around Sathyamangalam. For the wedding morning, order through your regular flower seller two or three days ahead: for a full jadai, you need about 6 to 8 muzhams of tightly strung jasmine, and another 3 for the bun or the side. Ask for buds, not open flowers, so they open during the muhurtham and stay fresh for photos.
For hair accessories, the shops along Big Bazaar Street and the lanes off Oppanakara Street sell jadai billai, nethi chutti and rakodi in gold-plated and stone-set versions, from ₹600 to several thousand. Bring your saree border colour on your phone. For bangles, the same area has shops that will make up a set of glass and silk thread bangles to match your blouse in a day.
Whatever you buy, bring it to your trial. A hair accessory that looks right in the shop can be too heavy or too large once the hair is done, and we would rather know two weeks ahead than on the morning. On the day, keep the flowers in a cool box with a damp cloth, not in the fridge, until we are ready to use them.
