Planning a maternity shoot: timing, outfits and comfort

When to book, what to wear and how we keep a two-hour session easy on an expectant mother.

The best time for a maternity session is between 28 and 34 weeks. The bump is clearly visible, and most mothers still feel comfortable standing and moving for an hour or two. After 36 weeks, sessions are possible but shorter and need more rest. Book four to six weeks ahead, and tell us your due date so we can move the session easily if needed.

Our maternity shoot costs ₹9,000 and runs for about two hours, in the studio or in our garden. We have six gowns in sizes that stretch, in cream, dusty rose, sage and deep blue, and you are welcome to bring your own saree, a mother’s or grandmother’s silk, or the outfit from your seemantham or valaikappu. Many of our favourite frames come from those personal pieces. Partners and older children can join for the second half; plan coordinated colours rather than matching outfits.

Comfort comes first. The studio is kept at 26 °C, we have a sofa and a bathroom on the same floor, and there is a break every twenty minutes with water and something to eat. Swathi, who leads most maternity sessions, guides every pose and never asks for anything that strains the back. If you feel tired, we stop.

Bring flat slippers for between shots, light snacks you like, and anything meaningful: the scan photo, a pair of baby shoes or a letter. Your online gallery of 20 edited photos is ready in seven days.
