Cold sparks, explained

What a cold-spark machine is, and where it can and cannot go.

Cold-spark machines are behind most indoor “fireworks” at weddings now, and they are often misunderstood. They are electric machines that heat a metal granule powder and throw it up as a fountain of sparks. There is no gunpowder, no bang and very little smoke.

The sparks cool quickly as they fall, which is why most halls allow them with approval. That does not mean they can go anywhere. We keep 1.5 m clear around each machine, keep them away from drapes, flowers and dupattas, and need a ceiling of at least 4 m. One technician stays with the remote the whole time.

They are good for the varmala, the couple’s entry, the cake and the first dance. They are not a substitute for aerials outdoors; the effect stays low, around 3–5 m. For a lawn wedding, we often pair four machines at the stage with a short gold finale overhead.

If your hall asks for details, we send an equipment sheet with the machine type, power needs and our team’s contact a week before the event.
