One shared show instead of a hundred scattered ones: the committee decisions, the timeline and the cost per flat.

More Pune societies now pool money for one planned Diwali show instead of every family firing crackers in the parking lot. It is calmer for elders and pets, cleaner the next morning and, shared across flats, it often costs less than what families spend separately.
The committee needs to settle four things early. Which night: Lakshmi Puja evening is the busiest for us, so book by mid-September for that date. Where: an open ground, podium or nearby plot with 30 to 40 m of clear space and no overhead wires; the clubhouse lawn between towers is often too tight for aerials. How long: 10 to 15 minutes holds attention well. And the budget: our 15-minute show is ₹1,45,000, which for a 300-flat society works out to under ₹500 a flat.
After booking, we do a site visit, then send the committee a layout showing the firing point, the safety line and where residents should stand. We draft the letters for the local police station and, for larger shows, the fire brigade, and the secretary signs them on the society letterhead. A week before, we suggest a notice to residents with the time, the viewing area and a request to keep balconies facing the firing point clear of drying clothes.
On the night, our crew of six arrives by 3 pm. Volunteers help hold the safety line with rope and torches, and the area is swept clean by the next morning.
