Colour smoke and fountain cones for daytime celebrations

Gender reveals, wedding entries and Holi photos: how to use colour smoke safely and get it to show.

Not every cracker is for the night. Our colour smoke packs and fountain cones sell steadily all year, mostly for daytime events: wedding entries, baby showers, college farewells, cricket matches and photographs.

A colour smoke pack holds five tubes, each giving about 60 seconds of thick smoke in one colour. Wind decides everything. Stand so the breeze blows from behind you and the photographer, and the smoke will drift away from faces and into the frame. Light the tube on the ground or hold it at arm’s length with the handle only, pointed down and away, and never towards another person. The base gets hot, so drop it on bare ground or a bucket of sand, not on a lawn or carpet.

For wedding entries, two people holding smoke tubes on either side of the couple works well. Have the photographer shoot from about six metres away, and light the tubes ten seconds before the couple starts walking, because the smoke takes a few seconds to build. Choose colours that suit the outfits: soft pink and purple look better against pastels than red does.

Colour fountain cones are quieter and burn purple and green for around 40 seconds. They look best at dusk rather than in full sun. Do not use smoke indoors, in a banquet hall, or near anyone with asthma, and check with your venue first; many halls in Ahmedabad allow smoke only in the parking area or outside the gate.
