Visiting our Canning Street shop in the season

Burrabazar in October is crowded and slow. How to reach us, when to come and what to expect at the counter.

Some customers still prefer to see the boxes before buying, and we are happy to show them. But Burrabazar in late October is one of the most crowded parts of Kolkata, and a little planning saves an hour.

Come by metro or tram if you can. Central and Mahatma Gandhi Road metro stations are both a short walk away, and parking near Canning Street is almost impossible in the season. If you must drive, park near the High Court side and walk. Wear flat shoes; the lanes are narrow and the pavements are full of handcarts.

The quietest hours are 10 am to 1 pm on weekdays. After 5 pm and on the last Saturday and Sunday before Kali Pujo, the queue can reach the next shop. In October we stay open till 10 pm every day.

At the counter, tell us where you will light the crackers and who will be watching, and we will put a few boxes in front of you. We keep one opened sample of most items so you can see the size of a tubri, the length of a phuljhuri and the tubes of a sky shot. We do not light anything at the shop, for obvious reasons. You can carry small orders home, but crackers are not allowed on the metro, so for anything more than a bag, pay at the counter and we deliver.
