Leaving home for Diwali or the summer holidays

Many Lucknow houses are empty for a week at Diwali or in May. A checklist for cameras, alarms and the house itself before you travel.

Two times a year, a large part of Lucknow locks up and travels: the Diwali week, when families go to their home towns, and the May and June holidays. Our service line gets its busiest calls just after people return. Here is a checklist we share with customers before they leave.

A week before, check that your cameras are recording. Play back a minute of footage from each camera from the previous night. Check the hard disk is not full and that alerts reach your phone. If any camera is dusty or covered by a growing plant, clean or trim it now. Customers on a maintenance plan can ask for a visit in that week, and we try to fit everyone in.

On the day you leave, set your alarm if you have one and test that the siren and phone alerts work. Leave a light on a timer in one room, and ask a neighbour to collect newspapers and parcels. Do not post travel photos while you are away; it tells everyone the house is empty. Make sure the UPS for the recorder is charged and switched on, because Lucknow power cuts are longer in summer.

While you are away, open the app once a day and look at each camera. If something looks wrong, call a trusted neighbour or the local police station first, then us. When you return, check the recording for the days you were away before it is overwritten. A 1 TB disk with four cameras keeps about 15 to 20 days.
