Exactly what we would put in a ₹2,500 order for a family with two school-age children, box by box.

The question we hear most often in October is a simple one: we have ₹2,500, we have two children aged about 6 and 9, what should we buy? That amount is also our free delivery threshold, so it is a good place to start. Here is how we would spend it.
Start with sparklers, because children light far more of them than parents expect. Two boxes of kids’ 7 cm sparklers at ₹42 each for the younger child, three boxes of green 10 cm sparklers at ₹58 for the older one, and one box of gold 15 cm sparklers at ₹88 to share. Add two boxes of twinkling stars at ₹120. That is ₹586 for about 80 sparklers.
Next, ground items for the adults to light. One box of big green flower pots at ₹360, one box of big ground chakkars at ₹240 and one box of colour koti at ₹310. That gives you 25 items for the street, ₹910 in all.
Add one pack of colour smoke at ₹260 for the afternoon and one box of 30 cm electric sparklers at ₹190 as the evening’s finish. The running total is ₹1,946. The remaining ₹554 can go on a second box of flower pots, or be kept for Karthigai Deepam. If choosing feels like too much work, our little ones’ pack at ₹990 plus a family pack of 60 items at ₹3,950 is the easier route for larger families. For two children and one evening, though, the list above is usually enough, with a few sparklers left for the next morning.
