A simple monsoon skin routine

Humid days need fewer, lighter products. Here is what we change between June and September.

When the south-west monsoon arrives in Coimbatore, the air goes from dry to damp within a week. Many people find their usual routine suddenly feels heavy. Skin feels sticky by noon, and rich creams sit on top rather than sinking in.

The first change is to cleanse gently but properly. Sweat and humidity mean more on the skin by evening, so wash with a mild soap or cleanser at night, even if you skipped it in winter. Our turmeric soap works well here; follow it with cool water rather than hot.

Second, lighten the moisturiser. Swap a heavier night cream for a few drops of oil, or our aloe and cucumber gel on very humid days. In the morning, a thin layer of a light cream like the vetiver day cream is usually enough. Sunscreen still matters; clouds do not block much UV.

Third, keep body care simple. Body butter is lovely in December, but in July it may feel like too much. Use it only on heels and elbows. Wear cotton, dry off well after the rain, and change out of damp clothes quickly. Small changes like these usually make more difference than adding new products.
