Flowers, brass, lights, labour, transport and clearing up: the lines on a ₹1,40,000 wedding quote, explained.

When families receive our quote for a wedding, the first reaction is often surprise at how many lines it has. We list everything separately so you can see where the money goes and choose what to change. Here is a typical quote for a wedding at a kalyana mandapam in Mylapore, with a floral stage, entrance and dining hall, for about 600 guests.
Flowers are the largest part, about 40% of the total, or ₹56,000 in a ₹1,40,000 quote. This covers marigold, jasmine, roses, chrysanthemums, mango leaves and banana stems, bought fresh at Koyambedu on the morning of the event. The stage backdrop alone uses about 150 kg of marigold. Flower prices rise sharply in the Thai and Avani muhurtham months, and we tell you if that has affected the quote.
Hire of brass and furniture comes next, about 20%: urlis, kuthuvilakkus, a brass swing for the oonjal ceremony, stage chairs and the entrance arch frame. Lighting, including fairy-light canopies and warm spotlights for photographs, is about 15%.
Labour, transport and clearing make up the rest. A wedding like this needs a crew of twelve working from 3 am, two vans and a clearing team after the reception. We include clearing in every quote; you will not find your hall full of wilted flowers the next morning. Every quote comes with a mood board, and we ask for 30% to confirm the date, with the balance on the day.
